Stella Ann Sherman-Cavanaugh’s journey to the Spirit World began July 28, 2023 at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND surrounded by her loving family.

Per Stella’s request, the family is honoring and respecting her wishes. Stella will be cremated. The family will have a Rosary and Prayer Service at Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake on Thursday, August 3, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Paul Schuster officiating.

A Christian Mass and Memorial Feed is being planned at a later date.The family requests that flowers and memorial gifts not be given in memory of Stella until the time of the Mass and Memorial Feed. 

Stella leaves behind family members: Daughters Wichapi, Anita and Astel; Sons Justin and Patrick; Grandchildren Xavier, Raphael, Benjamin, Annalissa, Taylor, Isabel and Benjamin Jr.; great grandchildren; Niece Millie McKay; Nephew John Sherman.

Stella was welcomed home by sons Joseph Cavanaugh and Rodney Cavanaugh, husband Benjamin Cavanaugh, her father Tasunka Nupa (John Sherman) and mother Emma Goodbear-Sherman, grandparents, sister, and brothers, aunts, uncles and many relatives who were with her at the time of her departure.

Honorary Bearers include all of Stella’s relatives. A Special Thanks to the helpful Medical Staff of CHI and Sanford Hospitals.
