Sterling L. “Bear” Restemayer, 59 of Devils Lake formerly of Hoople, North Dakota passed away on Sunday evening, May 5, 2019 at the CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital with family at his side.
Sterling Lynn was born on October 13, 1959 at Cavalier, North Dakota the son of Sterling W. and Mae (Werven) Restemayer. He grew up in rural Hoople and graduated from Hoople High School with the class of 1977. He worked for several years for a local farmer.
Bear made the big move to Devils Lake and began a 20 year career at the Spirit Lake Casino and Resort. He started as a Shuttle Driver and within several years was promoted to the head of the Casino’s Transportation Department. It was a dedicated hard working employee but due to health issues was forced to retire much sooner than he planned.
Bear loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He was an avid reader and anyone who knew Bear knew he did complain on occasion but always felt blessed to have such a loving family and dear friends.
Our dear brother, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend has left us too soon, but we keep his memory alive in our hearts.
Sterling is survived by his siblings and their spouses, Duane and Rhea Restemayer, Edinburg, ND, Robert and Holly Restemayer, Columbia City, IN, Stan Restemayer, Hoople, ND, Carrie and Barry Atherton and Mark Restemayer all of Devils Lake and Joe Restemayer, Maxwell, TX; ten nieces and nephews Angela Dubois, Desiree Gabriel, Sarah Restemayer, Amy Restemayer, Brad Hannesson, Brianna Atherton, Paul Atherton, Brandon Atherton, Meghan Atherton, and Monda Atherton; 13 great nieces and great nephews and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services for Sterling will be held at the First Lutheran Church in Hoople on Saturday, May 11, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Brooke Apple officiating. There will be a gathering of family and friends on Saturday at the church one hour prior to the funeral service.
Sterling is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
