Mass of Christian Burial for Steven Webster who died on April 10, 2020 will be held on Friday, July 10, 2020 at 12:00 noon at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake ND with the Very Reverend C.F. Wilhelm celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held at St. Joseph Church on Thursday, July 9^th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a Rosary and Scripture Service at 7:00 p.m.  The Rosary will be led by the Knights of Columbus, Scripture Service by Reverend Mr. Ken Severinson, Deacon and an Honor Guard by the 4^th Degree Knights of Columbus. 

Steven E. Webster (1951-2020)

Steven E. Webster, 68, of Devils Lake, ND, died on Good Friday, April 10th, 2020, from injuries sustained in a semi/tractor accident east of Leeds, ND.

Steven Earl Webster was born into the world on August 8th, 1951 in Devils Lake, ND to Earl and Blanche (Hagen) Webster. He was raised in Devils Lake and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School in 1969. He continued his education at NDSU earning a BS degree in Entomology in 1973 and a MS degree in Agricultural Economics in 1975. Following college, Steve spent 13 years working for the Federal Land Bank and the Farm Credit Services organizations in Detroit Lakes, MN, Crookston, MN and then with the Devils Lake, ND office to be near family and continue operating the family farm with his brothers.  In 1989, Steve set up his own business working as a certified land appraiser in both ND and MN, and continued this work up until the time of his death.

Steve married his high school sweetheart, Lynne Hinschberger, and together they raised three sons: Ben, Matt, and Adam. As the family was growing they enjoyed camping in various Minnesota areas and especially the ND Badlands.  At times throughout their marriage they traveled to various areas in the United States, Canada and most recently, special trips to Israel, Portugal, Spain, and France.  Many years he spent a week or two hunting deer or elk in numerous states with his sons, which were memorable events for him.

He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church where he was faithful to weekly Adoration, the Knights of Columbus, and Ramsey County Area Right to Life. When his sons were playing baseball, he was actively involved with the DL Baseball Boosters, serving as President for several years.

It was quite common to find Steve reading magazines, books, or watching the Discovery Channel--his thirst for knowledge was great. He enjoyed hobbies such as making birdhouses, feeding birds and watching wildlife, making beer, gardening and he was especially proud of the many flowers he planted each summer. Many hours were spent at the farm tilling the land, planting crops, harvesting, hunting, trapping, 4th of July fireworks, playing moonlight/starlight with his grandchildren and sitting around the fire with the family.

Steve was a faith-filled man of high integrity and conviction who cherished friendships immensely. He possessed a great sense of humor and was mischievous, teasing and playing pranks on his family (especially his grandchildren), typically with a twinkle in his eye and a little smile.  He loved to laugh and thoroughly enjoyed life.  He was a loving son, brother, husband, father and grandpa who shared his passion for the outdoors with his kids and grandkids.  His family meant the world to him.  He was taken from our lives too soon and will be greatly missed by family and friends.  He was loved by many.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and many aunts, uncles and cousins.

He is survived by his loving wife Lynne; his three sons, Benjamin, Matthew (Katie), and Adam; and his four grandchildren Jacob, Isaac, Annabelle, and Seth, who were the light in his eyes. He is also survived by his siblings William (Irene) Webster, Meredith (Thomas) Owens and Bradford (Terry) Webster as well as many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, and nephews.

A private family service was held on Wednesday, April 15th. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions, a Rosary/Scripture Service, Funeral Mass and burial will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Farm Rescue (farmrescue.org), a cause close to Steve’s heart.
