Susan E. Armstrong

Susan Armstrong was born on February 20, 1963, in Grand Forks, ND the daughter of Marv and Karen “Beth” (Zyllo) Betts. Sue grew up in Grand Forks, attending Benjamin Franklin Elementary, South Junior High and graduated from Red River High School with the great class of 1981. Sue also attended UND. She graduated from Bismarck State College in 1992 with a degree in Business and Office Education. She was named “Outstanding Student” that year.

Sue met Duane in High School. They dated throughout school and were married on June 18, 1983. Sue and Duane eventually settled in Devils Lake, where they raised their three children: Katelyn, Molly, and Benjamin.

Sue worked an assortment of Office Administration jobs throughout her career. She eventually decided to “retire early” in 2013, due to health issues.

Sue enjoyed time with her family, children, and grandkids. Sue loved being outside when the weather was nice, working in the yard and most of all sitting outside by a roaring fire. She was fan of the Fighting Sioux Hockey and Minnesota Vikings.

She suffered from a major brain bleed and passed away on November 11, 2024, at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks. Her family was able to be with her at the end.

Sue will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Sue is survived by her loving husband Duane; children Katelyn (Brock), Molly and Benjamin; three grandchildren Ashton, Connor, and Melody; her father Marv Betts; brother Mark Betts; nephew Jacob; father-in-law and mother-in-law Duane and Pam Armstrong, along with several aunts, uncles, nieces, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her mother Beth, brother Darrin, nephew Joey and her grandparents.

Per Sue’s wishing there will be no services held.

Sue is in the care of the Gilbertson Funeral Home, Devils Lake.
