Susan I. Feickert

Susan, “Sue”, Irene Feickert (Wever), of Devils Lake, ND, passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 24, 2025, at CHI St. Alexius Health of Carrington, ND after a long battle with dementia.

Susan Wever was born on February 6, 1950, to Vada (Neuschafer) and Everett Wever in Omaha, Nebraska. Being the fourth-born child of Vada and Everett, she was blessed with the love of her other siblings: Gene, Betty, Bob, and Tim. In Sue’s early years, Vada and Everett moved the family to Denver, CO where they lived for 2 years before finding Pierre, SD to be the best spot to raise their beautiful and still expanding family in January of 1954. Susan graduated from Riggs High School in Pierre, SD, in 1968, with plans to continue her education. She chose to study Business Administration at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD where fate led her to meet the love of her life, Leland J. Feickert, a country boy from Leola, SD.

On her first day of college, Sue charmed Lee in their bowling class where Lee was the only male in a class of 25 females. Lee often says, “Even out of 25, I’d choose Sue every time.” The couple dated for a few years before getting engaged at a Kenny Rogers and the First Edition concert. Their love story continued with a beautiful wedding in Pierre, SD on May 29, 1971. Sue and Lee began their married life living in Aberdeen, SD. They then moved to Huron, SD for Lee’s job where they stayed for some time before moving again for Lee’s job to Watertown, SD. They envisioned Watertown as more of a permanent move and put money down on a house there but after one more move, they found their perfect place in Devils Lake, ND. By this time, Sue and Lee had completed their family with the birth of their two beloved children, Becky and Jason. They found a home in Devils Lake, a place that has since become a cherished family haven, still filled with love and memories and adored as a favorite among family members.

Once settled in Devils Lake, Sue got a job working for an agronomist where the Traynor Law Firm is currently but switched careers to a place where she would devote 37 years of service. The Devils Lake Vocational Center, or “LACTC”, a part of Devils Lake High School, was not only where Sue was able to dedicate her working years to, but where she was able to gain numerous cherished and long-lasting friendships. Sue was inducted into the Educator Hall of Fame for the Devils Lake School District in 2018, an award she accepted humbly and proudly. Sue and Lee celebrated a wonderful 50 years of marriage in May of 2021 and have remained happily in love, a sentiment their family recalls as “showcasing the perfect love, true soulmates”.

Sue’s favorite thing was her family, and nothing joyed her more than watching her family grow. Their daughter, Becky, married Steven Lang on May 30, 1998, and their son, Jason, married Carrie Nerpel on June 19, 2004.

Sue enjoyed many hobbies during her life including gardening, puzzles, camping, a range of arts and crafts, and her beloved days of girl’s trips. But one of Sue’s proudest accomplishments was gaining the title of grandmother. Becky and Steve had two girls, Amanda and Kaylee in 2000 and 2004. Sue took on the role of grandmother with pride and so much happiness by being there for all their accomplishments and events, always with Lee at her side. Another passion of Sue’s was serving as a faithful member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church of Devils Lake.

Having the pleasure of knowing Sue, was enough to say you were truly touched by her. Showcasing her beautiful smile, pleasant nature, kindness, and a laugh to mend any low heart, Sue encompassed the qualities of a woman who will be forever remembered by not only family, but devoted friends.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, CHI St. Alexius Health in Carrington, Lake Region Corporation, and Altru Home Health for their unwavering and much-appreciated care for our mom, grandma, and wife.

Sue’s loving family include her husband Lee; daughter Becky and her husband Steve Lang, Devils Lake; son Jason Feickert and his wife Carrie of Carver, MN; granddaughters Amanda and her husband Randall Baker and Kaylee Lang all of Devils Lake; sister Betty Born, Idaho Falls, ID; brothers Bob (Deb) Wever, Rapid City SD and Tim Wever, Springfield, MO; mother-in-law Viola Tetherow, Aberdeen SD; sister-in-law Idella (Larry) Wilson also of Aberdeen; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Everett and Vada, brother Eugene “Gene” Wever, brother-in-law Raymond Born and fathers-in-law Albert Feickert and Paul Tetherow.

Sue’s family invites you to Gilbertson Funeral Home for a gathering of family and friends on Wednesday, January 29, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, January 30, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Devils Lake with Reverand Lori Pankratz officiating. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery with a time of fellowship to follow in the church dining hall.
