Terrance E. Nixon

Terrance E. “Terry” Nixon, 73 of Devils Lake formerly of Southam, ND died on Friday, February 23, 2018 at his home in Devils Lake. Terrance Eugene, son of Russel and Gladys (Nelson) Nixon was born on July 7, 1944 at Devils Lake, ND. He grew up on the family farm near Southam, ND as one of six children.  He attended elementary school in Southam and graduated from Devils Lake Central High School.  Terry served in the United States Army, Army Reserve and North Dakota National Guard from February of 1963 to January of 1969. He received training as an Automotive Repairman.  Terry helped on the family farm and after the family moved to Devils Lake, he continued to care for them as their next door neighbor. After his Dad’s death, Mom was still very active in the community, and Terry was always there to get her where she needed be.  Terry was a “free spirit”, a very quiet man to the outsider, but always enjoyed those one on one conversations with his dear family and friends. He always put his heart, full force into anything he did.  He ran an extensive trap line for many years; harvested, chopped and sold wood, collected many various items, including scrap iron he would use for his own projects or sell to others in need of it.  Terry loved his family and teasing and playing tricks on his nieces and nephews was his way of letting them know he cared and was interested in their lives. He never missed an opportunity to be with them at family gatherings.  Terry is survived by his brother Charles “Chuck” and Jan Nixon, Brentwood, CA and sister Gwen and Ken Mukomela of Marshall, MN; several nieces and nephews; (You can list them if you want), aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers Russell Patrick Nixon, William John Nixon and James Gregory Nixon. Honorary Urn Bearers are his nephews Rick Mukomela, Mark Mukomela and Chuck Nixon Jr. and long time friends Bill Shafer, Alan Adahl and Rick Anderson.   Funeral Services for Terry will be held on Friday, March 2, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home Chapel, Devils Lake. Burial will be in the Devils Lake Cemetery with Military Honors accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team. Gathering of family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 1st from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. at the Gilbertson Funeral Home.
