Thomas Gerald Dahlen Sr.
1931 - 2020
Thomas Gerald Dahlen Sr., a man that lived a life of 88 years to its fullest, a Father, Brother, Grandfather, Great Grandfather, Uncle, Great Uncle and a very proud Patriot. All of Dad’s children, brother, sister and grandson, Ben had the opportunity to be with Dad prior to his passing.
Our Dad passed away peacefully on Friday, June 19th, 2020 in Las Vegas, Nevada near children and loved ones. His son, Thomas G. and his wife, Pam were by his side.
Thomas Dahlen, Dad, was born, July 25th, 1931 in Devils Lake ND the son of Gladys Clarice and John Adolph Dahlen Jr. He was raised and attended school in Webster, graduating from Webster High School in 1950. He took after his Dad, loving and playing the sport of basketball and had a “mean” hook shot well into his sixties!
Tom Sr., met and married Zilda, on the island of Terceira, while stationed in the Azores. Our father served in the Army and Air Force; however, his most passionate patriotism and love of country was spent serving and honoring our veterans with his service to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where our Dad went through the ranks rising to Commandant for the state of Washington VFW. Dad “beamed” when he spoke of his son John’s service in the Army and grandson, Jon’s service in the Marines.
Tom Sr. has been preceded in death by his father John Adolph Jr., his mother Gladys Clarice, his wife Zilda, passing in April of 2016, brothers John Adolph, Gary and his sister Colleen.
Tom and Zilda are survived by their 5 children, sons Thomas Jr. (wife Pam), John (wife Diane) and daughters Cherrie (husband Marc Wilkins), Debbie (husband Peter Miller) and Shirley (husband Mark Boujikian), 14 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Additionally, our Dad is survived by his brother Richard (wife Donna), sister Judy (husband Dennis Schwab) and Joyce Dahlen (Gary’s wife). Our Dad was also blessed to be an uncle and great uncle to 52 nieces and nephews. Many have shared they remembered his “giggle” and his “fun loving” spirit!
The family will be honoring Thomas Sr. with a service and at the Scandinavia Lutheran Cemetery, rural Webster ND on Saturday, August 29, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. and a celebration of Dad’s life at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Devils Lake, following the service.
