There will be visitation at St. Michael's Catholic Church on Tuesday morning, March 11, 2025 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Everyone is welcome to share their heartfelt love and support to the family. The procession to St. MIchael will leave at 8:00 a.m. on Tuesday (tomorrow) from City Plaza, Devils Lake.
Tiana Sharel Walking Eagle, 31, and her daughter, Lokia Jay Lee Walking Eagle, 3, passed away on Tuesday, March 4th, 2025, at their home, St. Michael, ND.
Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Reverend Paul Schuster celebrating the Mass. Burial will be in St. Michael’s Cemetery at a later date.
Friends may call at St. Michael’s Church on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. to offer their condolences, love, and support to the family.
Tiana Sharel Walking Eagle was born on August 29, 1993, in Devils Lake, ND the daughter of Kristy Walking Eagle Gaking and William Waanatan Jr. and was raised by Kristy and her stepdad Johnny Gaking.
Tiana spent a majority of her life on the Spirit Lake Nation. She graduated from Four Winds High School with the class of 2013. She lived in Washington State for around a year and then returned home to live with her family.
Tiana worked at various jobs through the years and was currently employed at Wal-Mart in Devils Lake.
Tiana loved listening to music and spending time with family and friends.
Lokia Jay Lee Walking Eagle, the beautiful daughter of Tiana Walking Eagle was born on October 3, 2022.
Precious Lokia was a happy baby and a joy in the lives of her family.
They are survived by Tiana’s mother and Lokia’s grandmother, Kristy Gaking; grandmother, great grandmothers, Marsha Blueshield and Helena Littleghost; great uncle, William “Billy” Walking Eagle; sister Cherish Waanatan-Rispa; grandparents Kermit “King” Walking Eagle and grandmother Caroline; brother, uncle Johnny Gaking; Tiana’s godparents the late Verna and Elmer Jetty; Lokia’s godparents Lola Waanatan and Baby Johnny Gaking; many treasured nieces, nephews, aunties, uncles, cousins, relatives and friends.
They were welcomed into Heaven by their Lord, stepdad to Tiana Johnny Gaking, grandparents and great grandparents Marie and John Gaking, William Waanatan Sr, and Carrie Redday and many other dear aunts, uncles, and family members.
If we left anyone out, we apologize. It was not intentional as this is an exceedingly difficult time.
Special thanks to the Knife River Construction Company, the Wal-Mart Company and to all the groups and individuals who are fund-raising and/or assisting the family with the services for Tiana and Lokia. Thank you to the Gilbertson Funeral Home for their help and support at this very difficult time.
Active Pallbearers will be Alayna Lohnes, Hallie Smith, Alexis Waanatan, Kari Allery-Jackson, Darian Waanatan, Brandon Langstaff, Quaide Longie and Curtis Walking Eagle Jr.
Honorary Pallbearers are all family, relatives and friends who were a part of our loved ones’ lives.
Music provided by local singers. All Drum Groups are welcome to share their songs. Special Recordings chosen by the family.
