Vivian M. Wass, 92 of Devils Lake formerly of the Starkweather, ND area passed away on Saturday, December 21, 2019 at CHI, St. Alexius Health, Devils Lake Hospital.
Vivian Mae Lindenberg was born on January 30, 1927 in Sullivan Township, rural Starkweather, ND, the daughter of Walter and Florence (Raddatz) Lindenberg. She was reared and educated there, attending the Sullivan Country School #1.
Vivian was united in marriage to Melvin Wass on December 14, 1948 at Starkweather. They established their home on the Wass family farm, southeast of Starkweather in Sullivan Township where they lived, worked side by side on the farm and raised their 2 sons. Melvin died on June 10, 1988.
Vivian continued to make the farm her home. She loved the land, the outdoors, the beauty of nature. She was so proud to have the 3rd generation farming and living on the farmstead. She loved to garden and keep her yard meticulously groomed.
Vivian was a woman of many talents and truly believed in keeping busy. She baked and decorated many wedding cakes, was an excellent cook, known for her lefsa making skills and if the recipe called for yeast you knew that Vivian would be making the most delicious bread item in the county. She did embroidery and quilting and was a member of the Trinity-Bergen quilters and active member of Trinity-Bergen Lutheran Church and the WELCA. Vivian considered her neighbors and fellow church quilters such dear friends.
In the fall of 2004, Vivian moved to Devils Lake and in March of 2017 to Lake Country Manor. She was grateful to the staff of LCM for their kindness and friendship.
Vivian physically left the farm, but in her heart, she never left the farm. She continued to mow the grass for many years as it was such a precious connection to the farm for her. Her family was the most important aspect of her life. She was so proud of them and loved them with all her heart.
Vivian is survived by her loving family. Her sons and daughters-in-law Owen and Margie Wass of Inver Grove Heights, MN and Blaine and Julie Wass of Starkweather; five grandchildren and great grandchildren Jennifer (Mark) Mulcahy and their children Teagan and Calum, Keary Wass (special friend Tiffany; Cory (Jerilyn) Wass and their children Chester and Ella, Leigh Ann (Paul) Jenkins and their children Jack, Drew and Rhett, Sheila (Jay) Schlafmann and their children Vivian and Helen; sister-in-law Julianne Lindenberg of Texas and several nieces, nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Melvin, brothers and sisters-in-law Kenny and Janice Lindenberg, Ray Lindenberg and Duane and Mary Lindenberg.
