He was born 6/2/1938 to Sigurd & Frances (Weitstock) Johnson in Crookston, MN and passed away on 12/8/2017 in their home in Mesa AZ. He attended Fertile Schools and Bemidji State College in Minnesota. He was employed by Ottertail Power Company for 42 years. He started as Cashier and retired as Division Manager. He worked in Rugby, Devils Lake, Garrison, ND, and Crookston, MN retiring in 2001. While in Garrison he was on the City Council, belonged to the Garrison Jaycee's, the Garrison Ambulance Service, the McLean County Fair Board, and was chairman of the Garrison hospital board, Mayor of Garrison, President of the Community Chest and instrumental in starting the Governor's Cup Walleye Derby. He married Ellen Blankenship in 1959. They had one son, James. Ellen passed away in 1983. He married Sandra Opheim Schafer on 1/2/1999 in Garrison. They lived in Garrison until 2003 when they moved to Mesa, AZ. They lived in The Wells, a 55+ community, for 5 years. Presently, they lived in Tuscany Villas at Painted Mountain in Mesa. Wayne & Sandra enjoyed several cruises and loved the warm life style of Mesa, AZ. They enjoyed entertaining their "snowbird" friends. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; his son, James (Diane) of Devils Lake; his grandsons, Jamin (Kari) of Jamestown and Jace of Wahpeton; his great grandchildren, Landon and Lauren. He is also survived by his step children, Kristie (Clark) Kranz, Karen (Brian) Schmaltz, Katie Schmidt & families. He was preceded in death by his parents & wife, Ellen.
