Whalen Bud Shaw Jr.

Whalen Bud Shaw Jr., 38 of Fargo, ND, a Spirit Lake Tribal member formerly of the Crow Hill Community began his journey peacefully on Tuesday, June 26, 2018 in Moorhead, MN.   Whalen Jr. was born October 29, 1979 to his loving parents Whalen Bud Shaw, Sr. and Renita (Littlewind) Shaw. Wake services will be held at the Crow Hill Recreation Center, rural Ft. Totten today Thursday July 5, beginning at 5:00 pm with Rosary and Scripture Service at 8:00 pm. The procession to Crow Hill will leave at 4:00 pm from City Plaza, Devils Lake. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, July 6th at 10:00 a. m. at Seven Dolors Catholic Church, Ft. Totten, ND with Father Paul Schuster celebrating Mass. Burial will be in the St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, rural Ft. Totten, ND. Music by: Tony & Vina McDonald; All drums are welcome. He attended early education years at Prairie View Elementary, Central Middle School, Devils Lake High School and graduated from the Four Winds High School. In high school his strengths in physical endurance and hard work ethics helped him enjoy a variety of sports activities including wrestling, softball, basketball, football. He was proud of the many ribbons, trophies and medals he won during these wonderful years and his team mates from this time in life became his loyal lifetime friends. He attended Northwest Technical College pursuing with great enthusiasm learning automotive work. He loved all aspects of car care and their workings, stereo system installation, tinting windows especially enjoying the car shows and stereo system competitions. He will be remembered for his unique rides and rolling up with his rims and stereo. In these past years he added carpentry and concrete skills to his work talents and was currently employed with F&M Roofing of Moorhead, MN. His talents and interest extended too many areas throughout his life. A very talented artist, this was truly his passion. His artistic ability and skills included many different kinds of art mediums, drawing, and painting, his perfected skill in calligraphy and tattoo art to name a few. In creating a masterpiece he gave of himself deep heartfelt thought in each pieces creation. Whalen enjoyed river tubing, horseback riding, playing pool, facebook and physical fitness activities daily to keep him fit. His Dakota culture and beliefs were very much a part of Whalen’s life learning and practice. In his youth he danced traditional style and also sang at the drum during pow-wows. He observed and appreciated learning his Dakota ways of ceremonies holding much regard and respect for the teachings and what they offered in helping him strengthen his sharing of goodness to others. Whalen leaves here at his earthly home his parents Whalen Sr. and Renita; paternal grandfather Andrew Whalen Shaw, Sr.; brothers Denver Littlewind, Gandi (Erica) Shaw, Andrew K. (Margaret) Shaw and Bryer (Jade) Shaw; adopted brothers Allen Alberts, Tom Solwey and sister Meada (Scott) Jetty; special niece Shanese Jetty; aunts Marsha Martin, Corrie Shaw, Bonnie Jerome, Lori (Luis) Narvette, Ronna Neidlinger; uncles Clifford and Sylvester Littlewind; great grandmother Hermenia McKay; grandmothers Ardis Shaw, Onna Littleghost, Ernestine Herman, Bernice Cavanaugh-John, Ramona Cannon, Pauline Graywater, Inez Elaine Robertson, Helena Littleghost and Elizabeth Littleghost; grandfathers Vincent Shaw and Leroy Littleghost. He is preceded in death by and welcoming him to his eternal rest are his brother Tobias “Bio” Shaw; great grandmother Suzie Black Fox Cavanaugh; grandmothers Angeline Littleghost, Patricia Shaw, Arlene Gomez and Lavern Peltier; great grandparents William Shaw Jr.; Joseph “Grampsie” and Martha (High Elk) Littlewind; grandparents Pius and Mary (Waanatan) Littlewind; grandfather William Littleghost; uncles Alfred and Eugene “Buckshot” Littlewind; aunts Carol (Littlewind) Olson, Martha (Littlewind) Robertson and Marla (Littlewind) Kirk; many cousins, relatives and friends he was very close to. Whalen had his share of hard times and challenges to go through, but during those times he made many new supportive friends that helped and were there when he needed them, we thank you. We thank you Mike for caring and respecting Whalen as a part of your company’s team. Our son once shared that he knew he was going to die young; he leaves us with heavy broken hearts with his untimely passing. His connection of heart and spirit were one with his mom, they loved each other dearly. Whalen’s family shares their appreciation to his work crew he was very proud to work with and to his many friends that were a part of Whalen’s life’s adventures, learnings and travels. Whalen’s care and arrangements have been in the hands of the Gilbertson Funeral Home.
