Funeral Services will be on Saturday, August 13th at 10:00 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church, Devils Lake with Reverend Michael Flowers officiating.

Charles “Chuck” William Hendrickson was born on February 24, 1936 in Hansboro, ND to Jacob and Marie (Fox) Hendrickson.  He attended school in Rock Lake, graduating in 1955. He was active in all sports throughout his school years, and he said he was the first person to put football pads on at Rock Lake school. He was a member of the Rock Lake basketball team that played in the state finals tournament his senior year of high school.  Rock Lake took 2nd place in state that year.

Chuck worked for various farmers in the Rock Lake area.  On July 2, 1956, Chuck married Pat Bradley.  The couple moved to Devils Lake, and he worked at Powell Motors.  He was also the maintenance man at Locke Block Apartments.  He joined Mike Schwan at Schwan Wholesale in 1963 and worked for Schwan’s for over 35 years until his retirement.

Chuck and Pat were also area distributors for the Minneapolis Tribune and Fargo Forum in northeastern North Dakota for many years.

Chuck played amateur baseball and softball.  He was an avid bowler throughout his life and was very active in Devils Lake softball, as a player and as an umpire.  He was inducted into the North Dakota Softball Hall of Fame in 2000.  No one ever argued with Chuck the Umpire.

He was also an active member of IOOF – Independent Order of Odd Fellows, for over 60 years.  He served as the Grand Master for the State of North Dakota from 2006 – 2007.

Chuck was a loving father and a great provider for his family.  He provided many adventures for his children and grandchildren.  There will always be stories to laugh at and some stories that amaze people because of the dangers and trials that the family faced and worked through because of the leadership and parenting Chuck and Pat provided.  Chuck valued his friendships with so many people. And he was a darned good Pinocle player!

Chuck is survived by his sister Ann Schwandt, Rock Lake, brother-in-law and sister-in-law Scott and MaryBeth Bradley, Devils Lake; six children Terri Belford, Jeff (Jacalyn) Hendrickson, Nina (Rickie) Crocker, John Hendrickson, Lynn (Beth) Hendrickson and Elaine Ellis; twelve grandchildren; eighteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and some great friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Pat; his parents; sister Doris Clark; son-in-law Pat Belford and two grandchildren Kevin Crough and Jenny Crough.
