Stacy A. Janzen

Stacy A. Janzen, 53 of Devils Lake ND passed away on Sunday, May 22, 2022, at Altru Hospital, Grand Forks, ND. He was surrounded by his loving family.

Stacy Allen Janzen, son of Allen and Mary (Hanson) Janzen was born on September 13, 1968, at Cando ND. He grew up on the family farm near the Hampden/Alsen area. He attended Alsen Public School from 1974 to 1980, then Munich Public School until 1982 and graduated from Devils Lake High School with the class of 1986.

 Stacy entered the Army National Guard at Camp Grafton in July of 1988. He proudly and honorably served his country during Desert Storm as a Water Treatment Specialist in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Stacy returned to North Dakota, and continued service in the National Guard as a weekend soldier until his honorable discharge in 1994. Stacy was a patriot and loved his country. 

Stacy met his precious Leah Uhlenkamp in high school. They dated and quickly fell in love with each other. They were united in marriage on November 28, 1992, at the Assumption of Mary Catholic Church in Starkweather. They established their home in Devils Lake where they lived, worked, loved, and raised their two boys, Joshua and Austin. Stacy's love for his boys is endless, there was nothing that he was more proud of than them. Their home was filled with lots of love, laughs, and great memories. Stacy was overjoyed to accept his daughter-in-law Sarah into the family. The boys quickly realized that no one could mess with Sarah without hearing about it from Stacy. 

Stacy's accomplishments were many, which included a 25 year career with Pugsley's which later became known as Deli Express. Over the last 3 years Stacy chose to get back to his roots and do what he truly enjoys which was farming and raising cattle. In the winter he worked as a loader operator for TransSystem. Stacy is the hardest worker we know and was always willing to lend a helping hand. 

Stacy had many hobbies. He loved to hunt, fish, trap, find deer sheds, and carpentry. And that is the short list... He would never shy away from trying something new, including downhill skiing at the age of 52. He kept up with the boys skiing throughout the day but had to go to bed at 6pm that night. He was fearless and up for any adventure. Stacy and Leah fulfilled their dream of building the most beautiful home together. 

Stacy was a friend to many and his friends meant the world to him, beyond words can even describe. Stacy always considered his friends as family. He would give the boots off his feet, help change a tire in the middle of nowhere, and give rides to anyone in need while running his route. If you were ever in need of help Stacy was the guy to call. 

You can never quite predict what Stacy is going to say or do but whatever it is it will leave you shaking your head with a smile on your face. 

This wonderful man, loving husband, proud father, dear son, big brother, cool uncle, and loyal friend will be so very missed but never forgotten and always loved.

Stacy is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Leah; sons Joshua Janzen, Grand Forks ND and Austin (Sarah) Janzen, Devils Lake ND; parents Al and Mary Janzen also of Devils Lake; brother Peter (Angie) Janzen, Towanda KS; father-in-law James Uhlenkamp, Starkweather ND; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Stuart (Lisa) Uhlenkamp, Devils Lake, Brian Uhlenkamp, Hanska MN, David (Kayla) Uhlenkamp, Cavalier ND and Veronica (Robert) Woodrow, Starkweather ND; uncle Dale Janzen, Buxton ND and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

 He was preceded in death by his grandparents Pete and Gertie Janzen, Harry and Cora Hanson, mother-in- law Marlene Uhlenkamp, uncle Daryl Janzen, aunt Audrey Schell and many other beloved relatives.

Stacy's selfless legacy will live on through his gift of organ donation. Stacy gave his ALL for his family and it gives us peace and comfort knowing that he can continue to do that for other families. We are overwhelmed with the love and support we have received. It is very apparent to us just how many lives this humble man has touched. 

Gathering of family and friends will be held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a time of prayer and remembrance at 7:00 p.m.  Mass of Christian Burial for Stacy will be on Thursday, May 26th at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Devils Lake. Military Honors will be accorded by the Neathery-Simensen Post #756, Devils Lake Veterans of Foreign Wars and the North Dakota Military Funeral Honors Team-Army.
